The West Melton School Student Executive held a Wacky Day at school. All the students and teachers were able to dress in their 'wackiest' clothing, wigs and assorted face paints and masks for the day. A special school assembly was held and all students were able to parade with their respective classes to show off their wacky attire. The 'wackiest' outfits, as judged by the student executive, were presented with medals and ice blocks to celebrate their efforts in dressing themselves creatively and with flair. Year 6 student, Jack Burns, who was judged the wackiest boy costume in his class, wore a psychedelic orange and yellow top, flourescent green and blue trousers, a vampire cape and a haunted house mask with yellow teeth. He enjoyed wearing his costume for the day and commented that 'the wacky day was fun and it was good to see all my friends dress up in some funny clothing, including three boys in our class who wore tutus!!" LC3 camp to Whitecliffs
The best thing about camp was
Having fun with my friends like Daphne and sleeping in and hanging out with the parents.
The best activity on camp
That would be going to and doing old cemetery stuff like being in the forest walking and also hanging out with shadow (the cat).
My favourite place on camp
Would be going to the river because it’s all calm and relaxing and also lots of swimming.
Something that I did on camp that I not do at home
Maybe sleeping in tents and sleeping on the stretchers and maybe also getting to bike on the road.
The funniest moment
Maybe when I accidently ate a fly when I was eating dinner. It landed on my food and when I woke up everyone said I looked like I was a zombie .
Someone I got to better on camp
Gemma /the parents and Mrs Busch. I got to know Gemma better because I slept with her and we were in the same tent.
If I could change anything it would be
To let people sleep in and having a talent contest and more free time.
For me my best memory

Kiwi Camp Day
The Kiwi Team had a Camp Day at school. The weather cooperated for part of the
day and the studnets were able to participate in outdoor activities such as
water games and orienteering. For the remainder
of the day when the rain came, the alternative indoor programme was implemented,
with students working on indoor cooperative activities. Thanks to all
the great parent helpers who stayed over and assisted with both
the sleepover and/or the day events.
Year 3 sleep over at school
The Year 3 students slept over at school on Thursday night.
Most children took the opportunity to sleep in tents, whilst others opted for
sleeping in the classrooms. The students were treated to a BBQ tea, and played
lots of games, including spotlight, before settling down for the night. Many
weary faces emerged in the morning and headed off to the sports shed where
a keen army of parents helpers assisted with the preparation of a delicious
breakfast of Weetbix and toast. Tents and sleeping gear were then sorted out before
the beginning of the day's Kiwi Team Camp Day activities.

Student teacher at our school
At West Melton School in our wonderful Room 7, Mrs Herring has a student teacher in her class. Her name is Kate McKay. She is 16 years old and is currently a student at Darfield High School. For her work experience she has come to our school. Her cousin Brook McKay goes to our school too. Kate used to go to our school too. Whe she reflects on her schooling she thinks she had a wonderful environment to learn. She has always had an interest in helping children so that is why she wants to be a teacher. It is great having Miss McKay on work experience at our school.

Our Camp Reflection
By Learning Community 4
We left for camp on Monday morning which was at the Woodend Christian Camp.
On the way to camp we stopped at Pines Beach and then walked up to Woodend Beach along the coastline. Jack Burns commented that he spotted several dead dogfish. Bailey Hughes and Grace Hodgman spotted a dead crab and a jellyfish. Max Turner and George Brown found a small dead stingray.
We then stopped for lunch at Woodend Park before heading off to the camp. Jason from the Camp Centre gave us a talk about camp rules and then we headed to our bunkrooms to unpack our gear. We had some free time to explore the camp facilities. Grace Manera said we were able to play on the trampolines, do mini golf, play volleyball and go on the maypole.
We then started our first rotation activity.
The rotation activities were:
Aerojump – Nicky Dachs described this as a big bungy jump trampoline with a harness like you see in shopping malls.
Flying Fox – Ally Taylor described this as a medium speed flying fox
Water Slide – William Zwarst described this as a big tarpaulin down a hill with lots of bumps and tyres at the top with a mud pit at the end.
After tea, which was delicious nachos and chocolate donuts, we watched a video clip and then had supper, before heading off to bed.
We started the 2nd day with breakfast and bunkroom tidying before we started on a series of different rotations. These were:
Orienteering: George Harding said you had to find blocks that had stamps on them to show you had been to the places on the map.
Air rifles: Mitchell Hedley said you had to aim for metal ducks and pigs whist standing behind a barrier
Archery: Max Ryder commented that you had to hit the bulls eye target which was about 10 metres away.
Initiatives: Cam Cook said you had to
work together as a team, trying hard to lift each other up a high wall and trust each other.
Wall Climbing: Ben Scarlett said you had to climb up a wooden wall with a harness on.
Go-Karting: Michaela said there was a track made of tyres around the track and the go-karts went quite slow.
ON the 2nd night we went down to the beach and played games. Most of us also played spotlight when we got back to camp.
On the 3rd day we completed doing the rotations, as well as doing a big clean up.
“It was a fantastic camp and nearly hitting a bulls eye on the archery was my highlight,” said Max Turner.
Thanks to all our fantastic parent helpers:
Lisa Hurley, Chris Kelliher, Simon Jenkins, Jo Horsbrugh, Helen Doherty, Sharon Henderson, Bryan Hodgman and Caren Constable.
A very special thank you to Mr D and Ms McKendry for organising such an awesome camp for LC 4 and LC5.
You are the best!!!

Pool Party!!
Yesterday theSchool Student Executive held a Pool Party for any students at school to attend. For $1 entry, students could use the pool, be entertained by Jump Jam dancing and also receive an iceblock. The iceblocks were all kindly donated by Rolleston New World for the event, and the student executive were very appreciative for this support. One third of the money raised will be donated to Charity – the chosen charity this year being Cholmondely House. The remaining profit will be used by the student executive to assist with funding future events at school for students, such as discos. Student Executive Productions Manager Shannon Griffiths said “The Pool Party was a great idea and everyone seemed to enjoy it.”
