Rugby Funday

Rugby fun day
On Friday the 7th of May, three West Melton rugby teams went to Ilam rugby fields to compete in 3 rugby games. There were two year 5 teams and one year 6 team. I was in the year 6 team. We played Halswell in the first game. We received the ball and I ran the ball up and got tackled. I scored one try in that game. We won 19-7. Then we had a morning tea break. Our second game was against ST Albans. I subbed for the first 10 minutes. I played winger in that game and got a run away try and set up another try. I got a drop goal over the posts. We won that game as well and the score was 21-7. Our last game of the day was against Sumner. It was a really hard game but we still won.

Space Camp Visitor speaks to Kiwi and Moa Team, plus Writers Group

Steve Hurd, a pupil at Cashmere High School, visited our school and
talked about his experience on 'Space Camp', which he attended from
26March - 14 April. Steve was fortunate to go to the Huntsville Space Centre
in Alabama and attend the Advanced Space Academy, along with 30
fellow students from around the world.
Steve shared a Powerpoint slideshow of photographs and ancedotal information
about his trip, and pupls were able to ask questions about his experiences.
Some of the noteworthy points of interest were facts Steve learnt from astronauts,
which included astronauts needing to wear nappies as they cant' use the toilet
in zero gravity conditions. The students particulalty liked this point of interest!
Steve spoke to the Junior School, Middle/Senior School and the school Writer's
Club. The Writer's Club asked questions and used clipboards to record the
answers - just like real jouranalists!

Joshua Foundation Leadership Training Year6-8

Year6-8 pupils have just spent the past week engaged in a variety of leadership activities under the guidance of Chirs Allen from The Joshua Foundation. Pupils were involved in a myriad of activities which focused on team building and developing leadership skills as part of a developing leadership programme of work. Chirs Allen commented that the pupils were highly receptive to the prgoramme and were readily involved insupporting each other and developing confidence in unfamiliar situations that ofteninvolved 'thinking outside the square'. The 4 day programme of work concluded with a
raft building exercsie, where pupils were split into two teams and challenged
to make a raft that would sail across the pool to deliver and
receive a number of large objects.
