Year 7/8 information evening

“Hello and welcome parents, board members and Mrs. Jackson” I stuttered nervously. Tonight it was the Year 7 & 8 information evening, an evening where parents and Year 6 children could have a glance at the wonderful opportunities that we have in Year 7 & 8. Hannah welcomed Mrs. Jackson and Ms. Riley and the evening had finally begun.

Mrs. Jackson and Ms. Riley were handing out Post-it notes and pens to those parents who had questions that they wanted answered at the end of the evening. The most common question was “Who will replace Ms. Riley in Term 3?” All of the Room 4 students wanted to know the answer to this question and we hoped that it would be answered.

The information power-point was made from the view of us Year 7 & 8’s that turned up at Room 4 that night. After all of the present students had shared their speeches, the ex-students shared how West Melton School had helped them transition into their current high- schools. The Year 9 students that came were Alice Darry, Lauren Brown, Kylie Duff, Jess Waters, Rochelle Waters and Anton McGeachen. Most of them shared a short speech with us and then Chris Allen came up to talk to the parents about West Melton School from the perspective of a parent who has children currently attending our school.

He showed the parents a short presentation of what West Melton School has in terms of Leadership. Chris talked lots about the important qualities that we learn at West Melton School and answered a few questions from the parents.

After that important information from Chris, Ms. Riley and Mrs. Jackson stood up and talked about the school curriculum. There were lots of questions for Ms. Riley to answer and she did a great job of addressing everyone’s queries.

Ms Riley then announced the new appointment: “The new teacher who is going to replace me is Mrs. Busch, the deputy principal of Branston Intermediate who used to do Art technology and Textiles Technology!”
We were flabbergasted! Mrs. Busch is an extremely nice teacher and we couldn’t wait to see how she would teach us! We all are hoping that she will focus a lot on Art in spare time!!
