Christchurch Symphony Orchestra have taken their time to come to West Melton School. They were amazing. There were four great musicians who played the harp, violin, viola, flute and piccolo. Some lucky students had a go at playing the violin, playing the mini harp and conducting!
We learnt that:
*the orchestra has played at the Airforce Museum
*Helen the harpist plays in restaurants sometimes
*they all played recorder and piano first
*the harp has different coloured strings
*flutes have been around for 40000 years and they used to be made of bone or bamboo
*Violin bows have horsehair strings
and much more...

Congratulations everyone on another huge achievement for West Melton School! Our opening ceremony for our Transpower Science and Technology lab was a great success on Monday with many honoured and invited guests sharing our success. We look forward to teaching Science and Technology in our great specialist with lab with all ages from New Entrants to Year 8 students into the future.

Fantastic New Field
Our resown school field is finally open! We are very thankful to the wonderful King family for their hard work and commitment to this project. Look at the before and after shots!
Thank you King family!
It has been great to see the children (and teachers!) out enjoying the field.
Awesome Assembly
Learning Community 8 ran a great assembly including a wonderful Photostory about their learning in Term One.
Zero Waste
Today Kay came into LC8 to talk about zero waste.
Zero waste is zero rubbish.
Kay gave us some recycling to see if it had a triangle on
it. Kay had a honey pot in her hand and
she said “put your hand up” and I put my hand up. I said “you can make it into a vase”.
