Principal & Writers Awards - Term 1 Week 4

Congratulations to the following learners in achieving a Principal or Writers Award already this term!

Max H – Rimu Community – For showing all the KC qualities and for being a great KC kid.

Madelyn W – Harakeke Community – For showing respect towards other children and staff as well as excellence in her work.

Gabrielle S – Harakeke Community – Gabrielle is being a wonderful KC Kid, settling into the Harakeke Community.  At the swimming pool she is taking risks and trying new things.

William C – Harakeke Community – William has had a wonderful start to the year.  He is always being a great thinker and a respectful citizen doing his best in class.

Georgia O – Rimu Community – Georgia consistently shows the best West Melton KC attitudes and values.  She is a great self manager and thinker: ready to learn and putting her best effort into her learning.

Blake has been selected to compete for Canterbury County Tennis in the annual Town vs Country Tournament at Wilding Park on Sunday 1st March.

Scale Model of First West Melton Cottage

Scale Model of First West Melton Cottage

To help mark last year's West Melton 150th Anniversary, Ian Sanford built a scale model of the first West Melton Cottage in our area.

Today at our assembly, he presented it to West Melton School.

The cottage is a replica of the one built by Henry Trickett, the founder of West Melton.

The original cottage was built of rammed earth and straw, with walls around 600mm thick.  This cottage also has a genuine brass tap!!

Thank you Ian, we certainly appreciate your fantastic model.

Whanau Points so far this term:
Newtons - 6th place with 96 points
Langdale - 5th place with 100 points
Selwyn - 4th place with 109 points
