Well done to our amazing Junior Hockey team who competed at the recent Canterbury Primary School Sport Winter Tournament. What a fantastic day had by all. Thank you to Nicki Hamburger for coaching the team and to Grace for coming in at the last moment and refereeing for us.  Also a huge thank you to all the parent supporters who came and encouraged the students on the day. Well done to our Junior Football team who represented West Melton at the Canterbury Primary Sports Winter Tournament. All the players contributed to an excellent day and gave it their best.

A huge thank you to Dave Murdoch who has spent many lunchtimes training the team, and coaching them on the day. Also to Darren Meyers who spent the day reffing and to all the parent helpers who supported and helped on the day. Also thank you to Kathryn Meyers who took these fantastic action photos of the team.

Some great results from our small team of swimmers, who recently competed at the Canterbury Swimming at Selwyn Aquatic Park.

9yr Boys 50m Freestyle: Liam Murdoch - 21st/35 time 42:44
                        Backstroke: Oliver Nichols - 27th/35 time 54:65
10yr Girls 50m Freestyle: Tess Jenkins - 21st/35 time 39:03
                           Breaststroke: Bella Groen - 24th/32 time 56:06

Another fantastic effort from our Year 5 & 6 Netball girls.  They came 9th overall.

Canterbury Hockey Tournament Yr5/6

Last Thursday with perfect weather we all headed off to Hagley Park to face our competition. The 'wheels on the bus' was sung to the last verse as we travelled across town. There were 12 teams from around Canterbury, most wearing blue so we had to be careful to pass to our players, not the opposition!

We were hungry for a win. Having practiced for almost two terms under the watchful eye and experience of Mrs Herring and Mrs Hamburger we were ready. 

It was tense, some games we won with ease but then, boy, we had to run and chase and really pull out our best.

What a team. We won 5 out of 7 games, the semi-finals only decided by goal deferential, then finals. I was so proud our team got 3rd. Not only that we had fun and the team were very sporting with the best attitude. Thanking our opposition even when we lost. What a great day for West Melton.

Canterbury Winter Tournament - Football

On Thursday 28th of August the football team went away to Canterbury's.  The players were Calum Murdoch, Liam Murdoch, Logan Holland, Louis Frew, Harley Gray and Bill Brown. There were only 6 players and it was a 5 a-side game. 

We won our  first 6 games against  Oxford, Cotswold, Cashmere and Greendale.  Then we lost to Fendalton and missed out on the semi finals by 1 point. Our last game was for 5th and 6th and we won against Parklanes and came 5th overall. We were very disappointed that we didn’t  make the semi finals but we all think we did a great job and really enjoyed the day.

 We would like to give a big thank you to all the coaches and managers who took time off work to support us. We really appreciate it. Thank you for your assistance in helping us to compete.
