The old school well

The old school well

You may have read in the first BoT newsletter about the discovery of the old school well, while clearing the ground for the new foundations.
We have been lucky enough to receive the photos from City Care Building Construction and BECA.
What an interesting find, but unfortunately we couldn't keep it. :-(

An Archaeologist on site

An Archaeologist on site

While the diggers have been busy extracting all the old paths and concrete, we have had an archaeologist on site examining the earthworks.

As our school was established in 1871,  the original schoolmaster's house and outbuildings occupied the area now being cleared. Schools generally have a relatively small archaeological signatures and it is unlikely that any building remains exist. It is however possible that rubbish deposited by the school remains in situ on the site.

So far no news of anything exciting...
