Canterbury Winter Tournament - Football

Canterbury Winter Tournament - Football

By Calum Murdoch

On Thursday 28th of August the football team went away to Canterbury's.  The players were Calum Murdoch, Liam Murdoch, Logan Holland, Louis Frew, Harley Gray and Bill Brown. There were only 6 players and it was a 5 a-side game.

We won our  first 6 games against  Oxford, Cotswold, Cashmere and Greendale.  Then we lost to Fendalton and missed out on the semi finals by 1 point. Our last game was for 5th and 6th and we won against Parklanes and came 5th overall. We were very disappointed that we didn’t  make the semi finals but we all think we did a great job and really enjoyed the day.

We would like to give a big thank you to all the coaches and managers who took time off work to support us. We really appreciate it. Thank you for your assistance in helping us to compete.

LC 4 Ferrymead Trip recount

LC 4 Ferrymead Trip recount

On the Ferrymead trip first we went and put on our old fashion clothes. Next we went to the lunch area and the boys sat on one side and the girls sat on the other. Then we walked to the general store where we had a competition. We had to pick stuff like buttons, lollies, rice and sugar cubes. The winners got a job in the store from 6am until 6pm 6 days a week like in the olden days. The next activity was the tram. It was a double sided one. The boys went on one half and the girls on the other side. Last we made cookies at the bakery, and then the next day at school we ate the cookies for lunch.

Last Tuesday I went to Ferrymead with LC8, LC3 and LC4. First we got our costume on and we wore knickerbockers and caps with shirts on. Our first activity was the bakery, where we made cookies and we learned that little boys used to crawl into the oven to clean it! The next activity was the general store where we had to get groceries from the list that the shop keeper gave to us. The third activity was the school where Mr Green was the strict teacher. He had a strap and a cane, but luckily we don’t have them these days. The last one was washing and house work with Mrs Grey where we used a hot iron and a wash board to wash and iron clothes. We were so tired at the end we nearly fell asleep on the bus home.
