Enviroschools Leaders Camp at Glentui Meadows
Thursday 29 & Friday 30 October
The focus of this year’s
camp was exploring the unique biodiversity of
the Canterbury Foothills.
Students
and teachers from other Enviroschools examined:
- · A native vegetation including tāwhai/beech forest and scattered podocarp forest
- · Visited West Eyreton School and view their award winning Ellerslie garden and other projects
- · Studied the water quality of the Glentui River
- · Walked the beautiful Glentui Loop Track observing the birdlife and biodiversity which was unfortunately in the pouring rain
- · Met representatives from the Raptor Rescue Society and Eva a harrier hawk
- · Experienced participating in a mock Water Zone Committee Meeting
The objectives of the camp were for students to:
• Explore the biodiversity of this area and be
able to explain why it is important to protect it
•
Gain an understanding of the uses and value of water from different
perspectives
• Work together in
teams to share prior learning about this area through drama
