OXFAM TRAILWALKER 2016, 100 KMS

OXFAM TRAILWALKER 2016, 100 KMS

Last weekend, Miss Allchurch, Mrs Jenkins, Mrs Court (from Burnham School) and I had the adventure of our lives when we participated in the 100 km Oxfam Trailwalker event, along with Mr D and our awesome support crew.

We always knew that walking 100 km was going to be a challenge, but add the torrential rain, and subsequent conditions of the track, and it took it to a whole new level.  Some of the steep tracks were washed away, which meant that the only way we could get down them was sliding down in an out of control way on our bums!  We can look back and laugh now, but at the time it was a real test of perseverance, as this part of the track was in the dark in the middle of the night.

Our team of four reached the finish line after (just under) thirty four hours, with great relief, huge smiles on our faces, and feeling very proud of our achievements.  Unfortunately, many other teams either pulled out completely, or didn’t finish as a complete team, due to injury, exhaustion, or the hazardous conditions.

We would like to thank Mr D for asking us to take part in this experience of a lifetime, and for all of his organisation along the way.  He also led our amazing support crew, which was made up of Abbie (my daughter), Brad (Miss Allchurch’s partner) and Helen (Mrs Jenkin’s friend).  They were all amazing before during and after the event, and the whole experience has given us a special bond.

We would also like to thank our wonderful school community of children, parents and teachers, who have followed our amazing journey with such great enthusiasm, and supported our fundraising efforts along the way.  We exceeded our goal of $2,500 by nearly $1,000, so we are truly grateful for all of your donations.  During the tricky times, we remembered everyone who has supported us, and it gave us the extra motivation to get to the finish line.
