Wearable Art Cultural Festival
Wearable Art Cultural Festival
31st August to 4th September 2015
Last Friday, three of our West Melton school students participated with
other Canterbury schools at the Cultural Festival. They had entered in the Wearable Art performance. The girls had two
shows, Wednesday and Friday.
There were two categories: 'Wild and Wacky' and 'Iconic Christchurch'Alessandra and Bella chose 'Wild and Wacky' with their outfit
"Girls take on farming career". Brooke chose 'Iconic
Christchurch' with her outfit "Rebuild".
The process started in Term 2, with the girls coming up with ideas,
drawing and finally tweeking their outfits. On the nights, you had to be patient as there was a lot of waiting
around in the dressing room, before they were able to go on stage. They had to learn a little bit of choreography, doing one circuit of the
stage slowly, plus moving in a small circle before exiting.
Both Bella & Alessandra (she's a pro, as she entered it last year)
felt it was surreal, moving in slow motion. There were some fantastic outfits
on the other children and it was interesting to see the other competitors
interpretations of the brief.
They highly recommend entering the competition,it was a lot of fun but also a lot of hard work.
