Doctor Toh - Neuro Scientist visit

Doctor Toh - Neuro Scientist visit

On Monday 8th September, the Moa team and invited science students of Ms O'b's, were treated to a presentation by Dr. Eng Toh about "The Brain".  This was an initiative arranged by Cecilia Pascoe, who fundraises for the Neurological Foundation, in discussion with Ms O'B.

Dr Toh graduated last year as a medical doctor and is currently studying for his PhD in science where he is based at the NZ Brain Research Institute in Christchurch.

The students learnt about the various parts of the brain and what they control.  Dr Toh explained how neurons send messages across to each other which makes us speak, move and think.  We discovered how the brain develops from when we are babies right through a person's life.

He brought some samples of brain tissue and one was part of a spinal cord.

Many students found these very fascinating!
